The Institute for Research in Applied Mathematics and Systems (IIMAS by its Spanish acronym) is one of 21 institutes that make up the Subsystem for Scientific Research of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), within the area dedicated to Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The Institute’s mission is to create, develop and foster original scientific research in the disciplines of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, and Systems.

IIMAS is composed of an academic staff which includes 62 scientists and 46 research assistants across six different departments, within two academic areas: Applied Mathematics and System, and Computer Science and Engineering. It has one of the best specialized libraries in applied mathematics and computer science in Latin America. The Institute places great importance on teaching undergraduate courses and plays a key role in several of UNAM’s graduate studies programs. IIMAS also supports additional human resource development through courses, workshops, seminars, research projects and continuing education programs, as well as other forms of dissemination of knowledge.
