Overview
An intensive introduction to asymptotic analysis and
perturbation techniques for solving mechanical, physical,
and engineering problems with small parameters. Includes
15 lectures + 15 tutorials covering methods such as:

  • Regular & singular perturbations
  • Multiple scales & averaging
  • Matched asymptotic expansions
  • Homogenization
  • Topological derivative methods

Key Applications

  • Mechanical processes with discontinuities, localization,
    and boundary layers
  • Modeling vibration and heat-conduction phenomena
  • Multi-scale solid mechanics

Prerequisites
Required: Mechanics, higher mathematics, basic knowledge
of mathematical models of physical phenomena (nonlinear
oscillations, heat conduction)
Recommended: Elements of mathematical physics,
analytical methods
